Virginian-Pilot, September 22, 1874
Mr. J. S. Bixby [Isaiah S. Bixby], an old citizen and former merchant of this 
city, died yesterday morning about 1 o'clock, at his residence in this city of 
paralysis. Mr. Bixby was a native of Massachusetts, but had resided here for 
the past thirty years, and was for many years a prominent importer of foreign 
fruits and confectioner. He had a good many relatives and friends in this city 
and State, and his death will be much regretted.

Virginia Deaths & Burials Index lists him as Isaiah S. Bixby
and gives his age as 69.
