He was at his law office on Thursday. He was the son of the late Foster and Mrs. Jennie Tilley Black, and was born in the family home on Chesapeake Avenue in what is now South Norfolk. His father was a Norfolk County industrialist and owned and operated several cotton mills in this vicinity. He attended the old Charlotte Street grammar school, now the offices of the Norfolk City School Board and graduated from the Episcopal High School in Alexandria. University Graduate He was also a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his B.S. degree in 1925. He subsequently studied law at the University of Virginia and Columbia University. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta at the university. He was also a member of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Assn. He was a veteran of World War I, in which he served with the 111th Field Artillery. He was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He never married. He is survived by one brother, Barron F. Black, three nieces, Mrs. C. Randolph Hudgins, Jr., Mrs. Walter B. Martin Jr. and Mrs. David Clark IV and seven grand nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, where funeral services will be conducted today at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. Beverly Tucker White, rector of St. Andrews' Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
