Black NORFOLK - Gloria Welton Black of the 300 block of Tidewater Drive, passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, March 31, 2002, after an extended illness. She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late James and Lois Sawyer Welton. Gloria was formerly employed as a teacher's aid with the Norfolk Public School System. She grew up in the Huntersville section of Norfolk and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1966. She attended Norfolk State University. She was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church and in earlier years attended faithfully with her grandparents Rufus and Lucy Sawyer. She leaves to cherish her precious memory a son, Ralph E. Black Jr. and wife, Jasmin; two grandchildren, Charmine J. Black and Nicole L. Black; an aunt, Lucille Sawyer, cousins, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Riddick Funeral Service.
