"Jim" Blackett Jr. of the 3400 block of Bangor Court entered into rest May 1, 2009, in a local hospital. Mr. Blackett, a "dapper gentleman," was the oldest of three sons born to the late James E. Blackett Sr. and Virginia White Blackett, who preceded him in death. Mr. Blackett was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Norfolk State College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electricity and later obtained a Master Electrician License. He began his early teaching career in Crestwood Middle School in Chesapeake prior to accepting a position with Thomas Nelson Community College. He retired Jan. 1, 2009 from Thomas Nelson with 29 years as assistant professor and Electricity Department head. Mr. Blackett loved the challenge of teaching students all phases of electricity and was able to offer hands- on experience to several students through employment with Blackett Electric Company. Mr. Blackett was a member of the Historic Queen Baptist Church where he met and married his devoted and loved wife, Jacqueline, on Aug. 4, 2001. Mr. Blackett is survived by his wife; loving daughter, Sabrina Esther Blackett of Richmond; children-in-love, Jesimiel Ross Jenkins of Philadelphia and Shannon Jenkins of the home; two brothers, John G. Blackett (Albertine) of Chesapeake and Minister Gregory O. Blackett Sr. (Joann) of Rocky Mount, N.C.; parents-in-love, the Rev. and Mrs. Moses Blount Sr. of Chesapeake; three nephews; two nieces; four sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Historic Queen Street Baptist Church, 413 E. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, by the Rev. Glen Porter Sr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk, VA 23504. www.gravesfuneralhomeinc.com.
