The Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark Monday August 12, 1935
Calvin S. Blackwell, Jr., aged 51, son of Frances DeJarnette Blackwell and 
the late Calvin S. Blackwell, D.D., died at his residence, 5320 Studeley 
Avenue, Edgewater, yesterday morning at 12:45 o’clock. Mr. Blackwell was a 
native of Lexington, Mo., and for the past 35 years a well-known resident of 
Norfolk. He was a member of the Baptist Church and of the firm of J. W. 
DeJarnette & Co., merchandise brokers. He is survived by his mother, a 
brother, Dr. Hugh B. Blackwell, of New York, and an uncle, J. W. DeJarnette.
Funeral services will be held at the residence today at 12 o’clock noon, 
with the Rev. Sparks W. Melton, D.D., pastor of the Freemason Street Baptist 
Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
