Calvin Louis Blackwell Sr., 60, of the 7000 block of Selma Ave., died May 11,
2001, at his residence.

Born in Norfolk County, he retired from the Norfolk Naval Base as a supervisor.
Mr. Blackwell was a member of Ambassadors for Christ Church, Norfolk, and a
former chairman deacon at Trinity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Blackwell; a daughter, Paulette Cobb of
Virginia Beach; a son, Calvin L. Blackwell Jr. of Norfolk; two stepdaughters,
Avis Goodman of Virginia Beach and Laverne Brown of Norfolk; a stepson, Rayvon
Wilson; his father, the Rev. Sandy Blackfull ; two sisters, Margaret Turner and
Cleo Samuels, both of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; three foster children, Anthony
Brown (overseas), Vernette Brown of Texas and David Brown of North Carolina;
mother-in-law, Rosa Grier; father-in-law, Wallace Grier; and a host of aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Versenia
Blackfull ; a daughter, Yvette Johnson; and a stepson, Henry Wilson.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Olive Grove Baptist Church by Dr.
Harry A. Davis with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Viewing will be from 2
to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Home.
