L. Blassingham, Veteran Minister, Dies at Age of 81 For Half Century, His Particular Interest City's Welfare Center The Rev. James Laurance Blassingham, aged 81, husband of Mollie Owen Blassingham, died at the residence, 529 West Thirty-seventh Street, last night at 10:55 o'clock after a long illness. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W.H. Davis, Miss Lena B. Blassingham and Mrs. W. Willoughby; four sons, M.T., L.R., and W.V. Blassingham, all of Norfolk and John Wesley Dudley, U.S.A.; a brother, John W. Blassingham, of Norfolk; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Mr. Blassingham was a native of Belroi, Gloucester County and had been a resident of Norfolk for 64 years. He was a member of the Pentecostal Conference, chaplain and charter member of the Three Score and Ten Club, for several years was teacher of the Ford Bible Class of Brambleton Avenue Methodist Church and was a member of Elizabeth Camp No. 3, W.O.W. His particular interest was with the residents of the City Welfare Center, where, and at its predecessor, the City Home, for 50 years he took a very active interest and conducted services regularly for many years. The body will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to the Park Place Methodist Church for funeral services tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
