February 7, 1882

OYSTERMEN DROWNED.- Information reached the city yesterday afternoon of the 
drowning of two white oystermen, Messrs. Robert Boggs and Alexander Mason, both 
well known in this city, and the latter a resident of Norfolk, in Nansemond 
River Saturday in the sloop R. Q. Drummond for Nansemond River for a load of 
oysters, they being the only person on board. The sloop was afterwards found in 
the Nansemond River bottom upwards, and her mast gone, the men being missing. A 
pair of trousers was found on board with $51 in the pockets. The body of 
Captain Boggs has been found and will be brought to our city for interment. 
Mason's body has not yet been recovered. Both were natives of our city. Mr. 
Boggs leaves a wife and three children in Nansemond County. Mr. Mason was a 
young unmarried man, and has a father living in this city.

February 8, 1882. 

BODY ARRIVED. - A sailing vessel arrived this morning from Nansemond County, 
bringing the remains of Captain Robert Boggs, of the sloop R. Q. Drummond, 
whose death by drowning we noted yesterday. An inquest had been held in that 
county, and the body was brought to this city for interment. It was taken to 
the residence of one of his relatives, whence the funeral will take place this 
afternoon.
