Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bohlken, 68, widow of James D. Bohlken, 
who died early yesterday at her home, 218 Twenty-sixth street, will be conducted 
Wednesday afternoon from the residence, the Rev. O. C. Bell, D. D., former 
pastor of Trinity Methodist church, of which the deceased was a member, 
officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery, Norfolk.
She was born in Norfolk March 31, 1873, the daughter of the late A. J. and Mrs. 
Lucy A. Smith. She had been a resident of Newport News for the past 47 years and 
was a member of Trinity Methodist church.
Her husband, who died several years ago, was a former city councilman of Newport 
News, a former president of the Virginia State Firemen’s association, and a life 
member of Elks lodge No. 315.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Margaret Bohlken; five sons, Charles W., Walter 
D., James D., and Jack T. Bohlken, all of Newport News, and Fred R. Bohlken of 
Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. James E. McCoy Jr. of Norfolk and Mrs. Charles H. 
Bryant of Norfolk; and four brothers, W. H. Smith of Norfolk, G. W. Smith of 
Norfolk, C. D. Smith of Richmond, and A. J. Smith of Macon, Ga.
Active pallbearers will be R. T. Hathcock, W. T. Berryman, T. S. Smithers, A. L. 
Bivins, Charles K. Hutchens, Charles Gresham, R. W. Corstaphney and R. W. West. 
Other friends of the family will serve as honorary pallbearers.
