He was born March 18, 1868 in Portsmouth, son of the late Thomas C. and Mary E. Bohlken. At an early age, he moved to Norfolk, and graduated from Norfolk Academy. He served an apprenticeship as coppersmith and plummer under his father in Norfolk, before moving to Newport News in 1912. In 1920 he moved to Hampton, and joined the Wythe Fire Company two years later. He retired in 1945 from the coppersmith's department at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. He was a member of the Virginias State Firemen's Association and a life member of Norfolk Lodge 38, BPOE. Last December, his associates in the fire company honored Mr. Bohlken for his long service. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Copperthite Bohlken of Hampton; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene E. Jaeger, Miss Doris Bohlken, both of Norfolk, and Mrs. Charles S. Price Jr., of Hampton; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be conducted at 3:30pm Monday in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. J. C. Murphy, pastor of Aldersgate Methodist Church. Special rites will be conducted by the Elks and firemen. Pallbearers will be V. I. Brady, C. C. Butterton, F. B. Adams, J. T. Coltrane, C. W. Burgess, M. S. McCoy, E. F. Ware Sr. and J. G. Crenshaw Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be member of Elks Lodge, fire department and other friends of the family. All firemen are requested to attend the services in full uniforms, it was announced.
