Mr. Bond was born in Windsor, N.C., and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a rigger. He was a member of Post V and the Eureka Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Martha D. Bond; two daughters, Linda B. Baldwin of Hephzibah, Ga., and Diane B. Wilkins of Norfolk; a son, James L. Bond Jr. of Kaleen, Texas; sisters, Harriett Heckstall of Nyack, N.Y., Annie Bunch of Ossining, N.Y., and Mary Cherry of New York; brothers, the Rev. Van Jernigan of Ossining, Rhode Bond Jr. of Lewiston, N.C., and Frank Bond of Windsor. A funeral will be at noon Tuesday in the chapel of Hale Funeral Home by the Rev. Gladys Farlon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
