Bonney, 81, Of Norfolk, Rose Expert George Lester Bonney, 81, of 6113 Studeley Ave., Edgewater, retired tile dealer and horticulturist, died Thursday in a hospital. A native of Norfolk, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Georgie Walters Bonney and a son of Robert R. and Mrs. Bettie Lester Bonney. He was an Air Force pilot in World War I and past president of American Legion Post 36. He was past president of Voiture 86-40 Homme and 8 Chevaux. For many years he ran Bonney Tile and Terrazzo Co. in Norfolk. After his retirement he was in the nursery business and owned Delhaven Gardens for several years. He was a rose consultant and lectured throughout Virginia to garden clubs. He exhibited his roses in many shows and won many prizes. He was a member of Edgewater Garden Club, a past president and member of Tidewater Rose Society and an accredited judge and consultant to American Rose Society. He was an honorary member of Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs and Virginia Peninsula Rose Society. He was an accredited camellia judge and a member of Virginia and America Camellia Societies. He was past president and member of Old Dominion Horticultural Society, now Norfolk Botanical Gardens. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He is survived by a nephew, Jesse T. Bonney of Westfield, N.J. The body was taken to H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, where the Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8:30 p.m. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Newport Avenue and Painter Street. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 6, 1974, in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Newport and Painter St., at 11 a.m. A Rosary will be said in the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, tonight at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
