Bonney-This gentleman died at his home, No. 25 Park Avenue, at noon today, aged 44 years. He was a Knights Templar and also a member of the City Guard. The funeral will take place at 4 p.m. tomorrow from the Cumberland Street M.E. Church. **************** The Norfolk Landmark, Fri., April 7, 1893, pg. 2 Bonney-At his residence, No. 25 Park Avenue, Brambleton, Thursday at 12 o’clock p.m., John M. Bonney, aged 44 years. Funeral will take place from Cumberland Street M.E. Church, this (Friday) afternoon at 4 o’clock. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. ************************** The Norfolk Landmark, Sat., April 8, 1893, pg. 1 The funeral of Mr. John M. Bonney took place at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon from the Cumberland Street M.E. Church South, in the presence of a large number of friends of the deceased. The Rev. Dr. W.G. Starr, assisted by the Revs. J.T. Mastin and W.H. Edwards, officiated. The Norfolk City Guard, headed by the Fourth Virginia Band, and a delegation of Friendship Council No. 4, Chosen Friends, of which Mr. Bonney was a member attended the funeral. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. The following were the pall bearers: City Guards-George H. Miller and William Wassum. Chosen Friends-J.M. Forbes and W.J. Beasley. Citizens-R.A. Hyslop, Dr. J.N. Webster, A. Mercer, A.M. Cousins. ******************* The Public Ledger, Sat., April 8, 1893, pg. 1 The funeral of the late John M. Bonney took place from the Cumberland Street M.E. Church at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, and was very largely attended, the Norfolk City Guard and a delegation from Friendship Council No. 4, Chosen Friends, being present. Rev. W.G. Starr, D.D., pastor of the church, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Wm. H. Edwards, of Central M.E. Church, Portsmouth, and Rev. J.T. Mastin, of McKendree Church. The remains were interred in Elmwood Cemetery. The pall-bearers were selected from the City Guard, Chosen Friends and friends of the deceased and family. The floral tributes were beautiful.
