Bontemps, 85 of Virginia Beach, passed away on Tueday, July 12, 2005 in his home. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was a native of Massapequa Park, NY. He was a retired Technical Writer with Fairchild Republic Aircraft after 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Aircorp veteran of WW II, a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Counci1 2489 in Amityville, NY, American Legion Post 1015 in Amityville, Knights of Columbus Council 10601, associated with St. Matthews Catholic Church, Va. Beach, and was Past President of the First Seniors of Chesapeake. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Ida Bontemps, Va. Beach, 5 children, Cheri Congleton, husband Sheldon, Chesapeake, Va., Joseph A. Bontemps, wife Debra, Massapequa, NY, Cathy Bontemps, Kill Devil Hills, NC., Donald Bontemps, Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Janet Benedetti, husband Vince, Richmond, Va., sister-in-law, Mary Cordelli, Va. Beach, 4 grandchildren, Thomas Bontemps, NYC, Brian Bontemps, Myrtle Beach, SC, Katelynne Congleton, Chesapeake, Va., and Vincent Benedetti, Richmond, Va.; also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Matthews Catholic Church, by Father Joseph C. Facura, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach Chapel, on Thursday, July 14 from 7-9 p.m., and Friday, July 15, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Burton Alexander, III and his staff, and ask that donations be made to St. Matthews Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
