A native of Norfolk, she retired from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center. She was also the owner of the Willo-Low Dress and Hat Shop in Portsmouth. Lowdusty 's life was one of service to her family, church and community. She was a member of Noble Street Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She served as past vice chair of the Missionary Circle, as well as past financial secretary. She was also a former member of the choir. She was one of the first African-American women to serve as a volunteer for the Portsmouth Suicide Crisis Center. She was a charter member of this group and counseled many troubled callers. She also volunteered as a member of the Red Cross RSVP Program, primarily assisting the needs of elderly bedridden patients in nursing homes. In her community, she was known for preparing hot meals for sick neighbors and started a tradition of providing a breakfast for neighborhood family members on the morning of the funeral of a loved one. Most recently, she gained professional success as the owner of the Will-Low Dress and Hat Shop. Her uniquely presented fashion shows and millinery presentations were well received throughout the city. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William H. Boone Sr. and her parents, James and Mary Nash. Cherishing her memory and continuing to be inspired by her life are her surviving children: son, Dr. William H. Boone and his wife Mary; daughter, Attorney Sandra Boone; and an "adopted" daughter, Brenda Riddick. She is also survived by two grandsons, Nash Boone and Eric Boone; three great-granddaughters, Alexandra Gibson Boone, Morgan Boone and Sophia Boone; as well as her devoted friend and sister-in-law, Florence James. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins to whom she was greatly devoted. The family will receive friends at a wake to be held at Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, today, July 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, in Noble Street Baptist Church, 100 Noble St., Portsmouth. The Rev. Henry Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Following the internment, a reception for family and friends will be held in the church social hall.
