Funeral private. Obit: "Virginian-Pilot" Tuesday, March 28, 1899, page 5 MISS ELIZA KING Miss Eliza King, a verenable and highly respected lady, who resided for many years in the family of Mr Thomas R Borland, departed this life at the home of that gentlemen, No 158 York street, Saturday evening. The funeral was held from the residence at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and conducted by Rev. Dr C E Grammer, rector of Christ P E Church. The remains were laid to rest in the Borland section [Lot38] in Elmwood cemetery. Additional Comments: "Miss Betsy", Elizabeth King, was a very special person to Thomas R Borland, --- apparently never married, nor was her auntie who lived in her household. "Miss Betsy" was possibly his "nanny" when orphaned at less than two years of age, while raised by his father's uncle & aunt, George and Fanny (Green) Godwin, in Suffolk, Virginia during his younger years. She may have lived there in the 1840 census, was there in 1850 & '60 census, on her own caring for her aunt in 1870 & '80 census. Spent several of her last years in home of Thomas. Many letters are of record to her from Thomas and his uncle Euclid, later ones pleading with her to come live with Thomas and his wife. WHO WAS SHE and WHAT RELATIONSHIP TO "SMALL HOPES FARM"??
