Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, April 21, 2000 
Irene Beatrice ``Nanny'' Bowden of the 900 block of Hanson Ave., died April 17,
2000, in her residence.

Born in Prince George County, Va., she was a homemaker and the widow of Richard
V. Bowden Sr.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Custis, Ronette Bowden, Tracey Jones,
Leslie Jones and Phyllis Simmons; two sons, Richard V. Bowden Jr. and Cleydeith
Bowden; two sisters, Marie Spencer and Meredith Arrington; a brother, Alexander
Pettaway; 21 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren. She was
predeceased by a daughter, Helen Bailey.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Graves Funeral Home by the Rev.
T. McNair. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family at
the residence.
