Norfolk - Robert L. Bowden, son of the late Rudolphus and Almira Bowden, one of 
Norfolk’s oldest families, died Saturday, Sept. 2 at 4:20 a.m.

He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Protestant Church from which the funeral 
services were officiated by its vicar, the Rev. Father R. B. Martin.

Mr. Bowden was a member of the Philharmonic Glee club and of the M. W. Grand 
Lodge of Virginia A.F. and A. Masons, Lodge No. 67.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. MaDell Bowden; a sister, Mrs. Annie E. Harer; 
two brothers, Rudolphus and Thomas Bowden, all of Washington DC; a nephew, 
Thomas Bowden, of Norfolk.

The out of town friends attending Mr. Bowden’s funeral were: Mrs. Ida Lee of 
Roanoke VA; Mr. Fred Washington, of Raleigh, NC; Mrs. Irma Crosby of New York 
City; Mrs. Pauline Lusan of Chattanooga TN; Mr. and Mrs. S. L. McFayden of 
Raleigh NC; Mr. and Mrs. John Cross of Newport News VA; and Mrs. Carolina Flood 
of Charlottesville VA.
