He was born in Elizabeth City County, Virginia and had lived in this section for the last forty years. He was connected with the Baker Salvage Company until they closed and was afterwards in the employ of the W.H. French Dredging Company. He was a deep sea diver and during the Spanish-American War the government sent him to Cuban waters. He was the son of the late Enos and Mrs. Nancy Davis Bowen. He is survived by two brothers, Monroe Bowen, of Hampton and John Bowen, of York County, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia A. Parker, of South Norfolk and Mrs. Mary L. Rodgers, of Baltimore. Funeral services will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock at E. Lee Cox's Funeral Apartments, 402 Berkley Avenue, the Rev. R. Finley Gale, pastor of Memorial Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
