Brady, well known in this city as a real estate dealer and rental agent, died at his home in Howard street at a late hour Sunday afternoon. He had been out for a drive in the country in the afternoon and was suddenly taken sick. Shortly after returning to his home, he expired. When found, he was on his knees and death is thought to have been from heart disease. Mr. Brady served gallantly under Gen. William Mahone in the Confederate army throughout the late war and was imprisoned in our city jail sixty days for his refusal to take the iron-clad oath. He never married and after his return from the war, lived a very secluded life and, though impoverished at the time, amassed a fortune variously estimated from $75,000 to $100,000. His remains, encased in a handsome metallic casket, were forwarded yesterday to the family cemetery, Bower’s Hill, Norfolk county, accompanied by four stalwart colored men who acted as pallbearers. The funeral services, which were impressive, were conducted by the Rev. Joshua S. Hunter, pastor of Queen street Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Brady was, at the time of his death, fifty years old. Additional Comments: He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
