Bransfield Jr., 65, of the 1300 block of Hillside Ave., a retired civil service worker, died Sept. 17, 1987, in a Portsmouth hospital. Mr. Bransfield, a native of Baltimore, Md., was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Fleet Reserve Branch 60. He was retired from the public works department of Norfolk Naval Base after 22 years of service. He was retired from the Navy after 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Gladys H. Bransfield; a daughter, Eileen P. Wolfe of Pensacola, Fla.; a son, M. Declan Bransfield III of Herndon, Va.; a brother, D. Joseph Bransfield of Upperco, Md.; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Chapel in Norfolk Naval Air Station. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, is handling arrangements. A Christian wake service will be celebrated in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
