Braxton, principal of J. J. Smallwood Elementary school. Mrs. Braxton, of 7432 Diven street, died Saturday morning April 16, in a Norfolk hospital at age 44. She had been sick about a month. A native of Richmond, and the daughter of the late Warner and Mrs. Ruth B. T. Barco, she was a graduate of Virginia Union university and had done graduate work at Howard University, Washington. She had taught in the Norfolk City Schools for five years. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church, where she was president of Female Usher Board 2 and sang in the cathedral choir. She was also a member of the National Council of Negro Women, secretary of Rising Sun Chapter 105, Order of Eastern Star, and member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Surviving, besides her husband, are one son, Earl Braxton Jr. and one daughter, Miss Jacquelin Braxton, all of Norfolk; and one sister, Mrs. LaVern Lee of New York City. The Rev. W. H. Crews officiated at the afternoon rites, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Riddick Funeral Service handled arrangements.
