NORFOLK - Mrs. Evelyn Walker Braxton, 41, of 7413 Diven St., died Tuesday at 
11:20 p.m. in a Norfolk hospital after a short illness.

She was a daughter of Martin and the late Mrs. Cora Walker and a native of 
Norfolk. She was a member of United Order of Tents and was organist at Rose of 
Sharon Baptist Church, Lamberts Point. She was a member of St. Marks RZUA 
Church, where she sang in the choir.

Besides her father, surviving are her husband, Melvin Braxton; one son, Johnnie 
Thornton Jr. of Norfolk; two daughters, Miss Lettrelle Thornton of Norfolk and 
Mrs. Amelda Higgens of Washington and one sister. Mrs. Eloise Thornton of 
Norfolk.

The body was taken to Hale Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at St. 
Marks RZUA Church Sunday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. P.L. Harvey, pastor. Burial will 
be in the family plot in Calvary Cemetery.
