Mr. Breeden was the son of the late Leonard Lee and Mae Miller Breeden and was preceded in death by his son, Robert P. Breeden. He had retired from Texaco in 1972 after 22 years of service and as district manager of A.T.C. Petroleum in 1988. Mr. Breeden, a native of Norfolk, was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Norfolk. He was a graduate of Granby High School class of 1943 and University of Virginia, class of 1948. He was a member of Ruth Masonic Lodge No. 89. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Portner Breeden; two daughters, Leigh R. Breeden of Philadelphia and Nancy B. Teal of Carey, England; a son, William R. Breeden Jr. of Norfolk; one sister, Ethel B. Cox of Hilton Head, S.C.; four granddaughters, Stacie B. Wade, Anna Valar Shaffner, Meredith L. Breeden and Mary Bennett Breeden; one grandson, Robert P. Breeden Jr.; one great-grandson, Robert P. Breeden III; and a niece, Diane N. Fecher. A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church by the Rev. James W.H. Sell and the Rev. Irwin M. Lewis Jr. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery . H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital.
