Retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Rondel D. Brendle, 67, of the 3300 block 
of Plainsman Trail, died Sept. 25, 2001, at his residence.
Born in Hickory, N.C. Mr. Brendle retired as a chief petty officer from the U.S. 
Navy in 1972, after 21 years of service and was a retired accountant. He was a 
member of Epworth United Methodist Church and its Crusader Sunday School Class. 
He was also a member of Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge No. 220, AF&AM, Norfolk 
Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies, Grice Commandery No. 16, Princess Anne Royal 
Arch Chapter No. 1607, Lynnhaven Chapter No. 184, Order of the Eastern Star, and 
Fleet Reserve Association. Mr. Brendle was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean 
Conflict and the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Whitlock Brendle; two sons, William Brendle 
of Virginia Beach and Robert Brendle of Chesapeake; step-parents, Mr. and Mrs. 
Lathan Gay of Wilkesboro, N.C.; two brothers, the Rev. Billy Brendle of Newton, 
N.C., and David Brendle of Greensboro, N.C.; and a grandchild, Joshua Brendle.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 
Lynnhaven Chapel, by the Rev. Phyllis R. Earley. Burial will be at sea. The 
family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. 
Masonic rites and military honors will be accorded at the funeral home. The 
family asks that flowers be omitted, and memorials be sent to Epworth United 
Methodist Church, 124 W. Freemason St., Norfolk, or to Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge 
No. 220, 2959 N. Lynnhaven Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
