Succumbs After Brief 
Illness Police Segt. James Nicholas Brennan, retired, age 71, a member of the Norfolk police force for more than 25 years, died last night at his home, 348 West Fourteenth street, following a short illness. Sergeant Brennan was one of the best-known police officers of the city. Following a period of conspicuous service, he was elevated to the rank of sergeant. He was retired from active desk duty at the Second precinct in 1924. He was a native of Quebec, Canada, but had made his home in Norfolk for the past 45 years. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Agnes L. Brennan; three sons, William P., Herbert J. and James N. Brennan, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Bert Havvock and Miss Marguerite Brennan, and two grandchildren, all of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Helena Walsh, of Ottawa, Canada, and Mrs. Thomas Lyon, of Montreal, and a brother, Peter Brennan, of Quebec. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock from Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
