"Kathy" was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Amelio A. Barbarisi, Sr. and Angelina Minutolo Barbarisi Durr. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John R. Brett, Jr., her two daughters, Connie Reutt of Chesapeake and Bonnie Brett and Marcie of Bradenton, FL and her granddaughter aka "Pumpkin Pie", Katherine Reutt. Her other surviving family members included two brothers Amelio A. Barbarisi, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Jacksonville, FL, Charles J. Durr, Jr. of Norfolk, one sister Louise B. Rozos and her husband George, her sister-in-law Louise Sarah Barbarisi and many nieces, nephews, a great niece, and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother William "Bill" Barbarisi. Kathy was born in Norfolk, VA on October 27, 1941. She graduated from Maury High School in 1960. She married her high school sweetheart, John Brett, in Norfolk in 1962 and began a family having two wonderful daughters. Kathy begin working for The Virginian Pilot-Ledger Star in 1971 and retired from The Pilot in 2008 after 37 years of service as the payroll administrator. She continued to work for Landmark Communications in various positions until 2016. Kathy was very proud of her family. She told everyone she came in contact with how they were doing and their successes. In 1995, her namesake, grandchild was born, Katherine Anne, who was the sparkle of her eyes. She loved shopping, traveling and being at the beach. Kathy spent 40 years of dedicated service to the Joy Fund Charity Bowl serving as the assistant director and treasurer. Kathy always said she was fine and never complained. She always said it wouldn't do her any good. During her last days on this earth, Kathy was surrounded by her many friends and family. A funeral is scheduled for 12 noon on Thursday, January 11th at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel (1501 Colonial Avenue), with a graveside ceremony to follow. The family will receive guests at the reception in the residence following the funeral. Frank Howlett will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kathy's life.
