She served as the administrative assistant to the ministers of Epworth United Methodist Church for 46 years, until her retirement in 1986. Born in Princeton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lois Anne Shorter Griffith and Charles Franklin Griffith and was the widow of Hurley Wadell Briscoe. She not only worked for the church, but was a longtime member, served on their administrative council, and was very active and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the International Toastmistress Club, and served as their international president in 1976-1977. She was a graduate of Maury High School, and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. Survivors include two nephews, Clarence F. Osborne of Silver Spring, Md., and Carl Osborne of New Jersey. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Phyllis R. Earley. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 124 W. Freemason St., Norfolk, VA 23510.
