NORFOLK - Doris Backus Brock, 95, of the 400 block of Pleasant Point Dr., 
Norfolk, died January 6, 2015, in her home. Mrs. Brock was the daughter of the 
late Benjamin Thurman Backus and Pearl Stant Backus. Mrs. Brock was born and 
raised in Norfolk. She later developed her family's farm into what is now known 
as Pleasant Point. She was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church in Virginia 
Beach and attended First Baptist Church of Norfolk. Mrs. Brock was predeceased 
by her brother Bruce F. Backus, Sr. Survivors include her three sons; Ronald T. 
Brock of Virginia Beach, Wynn S. Brock and his wife Teresa of Virginia Beach, 
Larry Brock and his wife Judy of Plano, Texas; and two grandchildren, Jennifer 
and Stephen Brock both of Plano, Texas. Mrs. Brock is also survived by several 
great-nieces and -nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., 
Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments 
with Charles Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in 
Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to 
services from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
