Norfolk Virginian Pilot March 11, 1941

Mrs. Maria Shelby Brooke, widow of Warner Lewis Brooke, and daughter of the late 
Frank Bernard and Mrs. Anna William Fassman, a native of New Orleans, and a 
resident of Norfolk for more than 50 years, died at 7 o'clock yesterday morning at 
the residence of her son, Douglas Shelby Brooke, 1126 Westover Avenue. Besides her 
son, she is survived by two granddaughters, and a niece, Mrs. Richard T. Cox, of 
New York.
Funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, 
with the Rev. E. Ruffin Jones, D.D., rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 
officiating.  Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery.
