She was a native of Norfolk where she attended the Norfolk public schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She graduated from Virginia State College with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She was an elementary school teacher in Ashland and Willisville, Va. Later, she was a procurement analyst with the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Md., until her retirement. Emma was predeceased by her husband, Tom Brooks, in 1977, and her youngest brother, Ernest Olds Jr. She is survived by four sisters and one brother: Ruth Olds Tucker, Irene Olds Townes, Mary Olds Faulkner, Lucille V. Olds, and Isaac James Olds. She is also survived by cousins, Julia H. Newsome, Viola O. Whitaker, and Margaret O. Jenkins; a sister-in-law, Lezelle Olds; a brother-in-law, Lorenzo Townes; five nieces; two nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Peoples Congregational United Church of Christ, 4704 13th St., N.W., Washington, D.C.
