The funeral of Mr. J. C. Broomes, who resided on Cumberland street, a well known
resident of this city, was held at Metropolitan A. M. E. Zion Church Sunday
afternoon. Mr. Broomes was 49 years old. He was a native of Maryland, but had
resided in Norfolk for the past 25 years. Besides being a member of Metropolitan
Church he held membership in the Masonic, Odd Fellows and Elk lodges, which
attended the funeral in a body.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
