Charles Broomes, husband of Mrs. Elnora Broomes, who departed this life Wednesday July 18th, at 7:30 p.m. at his residence, 720 Cumberland street, were held from Metropolitan A.M.E.Z. Church of which he was a faithful and loyal member, Sunday July 22nd, at 3 p.m. The deceased was a faithful member of the above named church for ten years, always at his post of duty until sickness overtook him about ten months ago. During the funeral services a solo was rendered, “Waiting For Me,” by Miss Rotelia Perkins and a wonderful sermon by the pastor, Rev. Henderson. During his illness he bore each pain patiently, never complained yet he would say “the Lord Knows best.” The floral designs were numerous and beautiful. The deceased was a native of Eastern Maryland, before coming to Norfolk where he made his home for 24 years. And during these twenty-four years he had gained many loyal friends. He was buried in a vault on the family plot in Calvary Cemetery with honors from the Fishermen, Odd Fellows, Greater Norfolk Lodge of Elks, and all the rites of a Masonic. He leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, father,sister,four brothers and two children.
