NORFOLK - Mildred Alliene Broughton, 89, of the National Lutheran Home, Ro
Rockville, Md., passed away and went to be with the Lord June 3 [5], 2002.
Miss Broughton was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Kate and J
John Broughton. She had worked several years in the sales business for Roy B. M
Martin, Jr., the former mayor of Norfolk, and had been a longtime resident of A
Asheville, N.C., where she worked in the hotel business.
Survivors include her niece, Charlotte P. Shepard of Norfolk; a nephew, Col. 
Charles F. Pilley, U.S. Air Force retired, of Fairfax, Va.; four great-nephews, 
Charles Pilley and Michael Pilley both of Charleston, W. Va., Lt. Cmdr. Steven 
B. Shepard, U.S. Navy, of Fairfax, Va., and Allen W. Shepard of Chesapeake.
The family deeply appreciates the affection with which everyone at The National Lu
Lutheran Home helped and cared for her for almost 10 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the National L
Lutheran Home. She touched the lives of all she came in contact with and lived h
her lifetime in serving her family, friends and those around her. Words cannot e
express the loss the family feels at this time. The Bible verse to sum up her c
care and concern for others is best epitomized by Matthew 25:21, "Well done, g
good and faithful servant."
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elmwood Cemetery by 
the Rev. Gordon Davis. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling 
arrangements.
