Samuel C. Broughton Jr., 87, of the 1000 block of Kane St., died May 19, 1999.

Born in Norfolk County, he was a retired stevedore at Norfolk Naval Base. He was
a member of Oakwood Chapel Disciples of Christ Church where he was a deacon and
a superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a member of Blooming Light
Lodge No. 132 for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Broughton; a son, Floyd Sweatt Sr., both of
Norfolk; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six
great-great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a host of cousins, other relatives and
friends.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Chapel Disciples of Christ
Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Visitation will be at 1064 Kane St.
E.A. Hughes Funeral Home is in charge.
