Samuel Brown, known by the majority of Berkley people, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kate Ansell, yesterday morning at 7:30 o'clock, after an illness of pneumonia since last Tuesday morning. The deceased was about seventy years of age and was born in Chowan County, N.C., and moved to Berkley about fifteen years ago. He had the distinction of being the first and last man to drive the horse cars on the Berkley street railway and he was proud of the fact. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. J.A. Ramsey will officiate. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Captain Brown was not actively engaged in business for several years on account of his age. He leaves a widow and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Ansell. *************************************************************************** The funeral of the late Capt. Samuel Brown, who died at his home, corner Ninth and Liberty streets, Monday, was conducted from the residence yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. A.J. Ramsey, pastor of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church officiated. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery.
