Norfolk Virginian Pilot Wednesday June 6, 1951
Mrs. Ellen (Ella) Payne Brown, 80, died yesterday at 12:00 p.m. at the 
residence of her son, Ivey B. Brown, in the Merrimack Apartments, after an 
illness of six weeks.
A native of Princess Anne County, she had lived in Norfolk 78 years. She was 
a daughter of the late Mathius and Mrs. Amelia Trebathan Payne and wife of 
the late William Lee Brown. She was a member of St. Bride's Episcopal 
Church, Berkley.
Besides Mr. Brown, she is survived by one other son, Charlie T. Brown, of 
Norfolk; one grandson, I. Nelson Brown, of Norfolk; one granddaughter, 
Dorothy E. Brown, of Birmingham, Ala., and one great-grandson, I. Nelson 
Brown, Jr. of Norfolk.
The body was removed to the Sykes Funeral Home, Berkley. Funeral services 
will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Bride's Episcopal Church. 
Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
