Mrs. Brown was born in Norfolk. She was employed with the VIrginia Beach public schools for 30 years. She was one of the founders of Les Gemmes and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, NAACP, Virginia Beach Library Association and the local, state and national education associations. Survivors include her husband, Clyde H. Brown; two stepdaughters, Claudia B. Walker of Newport News and Collista B. Wiggins of Washington, D.C.; a stepson, Clyde Brown Jr.; her father, William R. Mercer of Virginia Beach; and a brother, William Mercer Jr. of Norfolk. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. John H. Foster. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Hale Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday.
