He was a son of Joseph and Mrs. Mary Ellen Harper Brown and was native of Hickory, Norfolk County. He lived in Norfolk 60 years and worked as an apartment house superintendent during that time. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he was treasurer of the deacon board. He was a member of Tidewater Deacons Union. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lelia Brown; two sons, William W. Brown Jr. of Washington, and James Brown of Alexandria; two daughters, Mrs. Lenora Long and Mrs. Mary B. Fisher of Norfolk; two brothers, Boston Brown of Norfolk and Elijah Brown of Hickory; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was taken to Riddick Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held in Jerusalem Baptist Church Sunday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Thomas M. Venable, pastor. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
