A native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Joseph and Ella Hodges Payton and widow of Carnell Brown, Mrs. Brown worked in environmental service for the Breezy Point Officers Club. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Logan Park, where she had been active in many phases of church life. Survivors include a daughter, Angeline E. Ferebee of Norfolk; a sister, Beatrice Jones of Norfolk; a brother, James Payton of Norfolk; two sisters-in-law, Frances Payton and Evelyn Payton, both of Norfolk; grandchildren, Maurice L. Ferebee III, Rashad M. Ferebee, both of Norfolk; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and among them, a very special nephew, James Harris, and his wife, Willie Mae Harris. A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in First Baptist Church, Logan Park, by the Rev. Kevin L. Clay. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Riddick Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at 1213 Elliott St. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday.
