NORFOLK - James A. "Big James" Brown, 73, of the 600 block of W. 38th St.,
departed this life Aug. 21, 2007, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was
born March 31, 1934, to the late Evelyn M. and James V. Brown in Norfolk and
attended Norfolk public schools. James was the owner of B & M Convenience Store.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, L. Mae Brown; one daughter, Renee
Thomas of Norfolk; two sons, Randell Thomas (Regina) of Stafford and Rufus Smith
(Joyce) of Norfolk; one sister, Shirley E. Lucas of Norfolk; one brother, Daniel
L. Brown (Ella) of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Randell, Rekila, Sharon and
Aaron; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute
St. Dr. Robert G. Murray will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery,
Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 616 W. 38th St. one hour prior to
the service for the procession to the church. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m.
Sunday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St. Chapel.
