The Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark Wednesday February 11, 1931
Mrs. Virginia Cary Browne, aged 96 years, widow of Andrew C. Browne, and 
daughter of the late Shepard G. and Emory Miller, of Mathews County, died 
yesterday afternoon at 12:40 o'clock at the residence, 6 Lansing Apartments, 
729 Redgate avenue.  She was a native of Mathews County and had been a 
resident of Norfolk for the past two years.  Surviving her are two 
daughters, Mrs. J. Logan Harrison, of Norfolk and Mrs. James P. Banner, of 
Mathews County; one son, Andrew S. Browne, of Norfolk; one brother, Shepard 
G. Miller, of Mathews County, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Armistead, of 
Hendersonville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, R. Maury Browne, C.G. Browne, Mrs. 
Virginia Browne Pender, Mrs. James Jordan, Jr., Andrew S. Browne, Jr., E.W. 
Browne, Jr., Mrs. C. Walker Smith, Andrew Gary Browne, Miss Lucy Perry 
Banner, and James Browne Banner; 10 great-grandchildren, R. Maury Browne, 
Jr., Pembroke D.G. Browne, James Maxwell Browne, Eleanor S. Browne, 
Elizabeth C. Smith, C.G. Jordan, James M. Jordan, III, and Mary Minor 
Jordan, all of Norfolk; Virginia C. Crockett, and Mary Thorne Crockett, of 
Max Meadows.  Funeral services will be held at the above residence Thursday 
afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Rev. C.M. Gordon, D.D., pastor of the First 
Christian Church (Disciples), will officiate.  Interment will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery.  Mrs. Browne was the mother of E.W. Browne, Sr., whose death 
occurred several months ago.
