The Virginian Pilot June 19, 1963
Mrs. Gertrude Emogene Sykes Browne, 85, died Tuesday in Mary F. Ballentine Home.
She was the widow of Claude Hewitt Browne and was a native of Mauston, Wis.  
She lived in Norfolk 23 years.
Surviving are a son, Marvin F. Browne of Chesapeake; a daughter, Mrs. Ione Farr 
of San Francisco; two sisters, Mrs. W.L. Buttz of Aberdeen, S.D., and Mrs. O.H. 
Abbey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Thursday at 3 
p.m. by the Rev. Carroll Lewis of Rosemont Christian Church.  Burial will be in 
Elmwood Cemetery.
