The Norfolk Virginian Pilot Saturday October 9, 1943


Mrs. Birdie C. Brownley, age 50, died in a hospital in Atlanta, Ga., Thursday 
night, after an illness of 22 months. Mrs. Brownley was a native of South 
Norfolk, and had lived in Atlanta for the past two years. She was the daughter 
of William T. and Nannie Swinson Coburn, and wife of Harry E. Brownley. Besides 
her husband she is survived by two sisters. Mrs. Henry W. Divers, of Norfolk, 
and Mrs. R.W. Bondurant, of Williamston, N.C.; a brother, J.W. Coburn, of 
Baltimore and several nieces and nephews. The body will arrive this morning at 
11 o’clock and will be taken to the Sykes Funeral Home, 124 East Berkley 
Avenue, pending funeral arrangements.

Deaths -Brownley, Mrs. Birdie C.-In a hospital in Atlanta, Ga., Thursday night, 
Oct 7, 1943, Mrs. Birdie C. Brownley, a native of South Norfolk, a daughter of 
the late William T. and Nannie Swinson Coburn, and wife and Harry E. Brownley, 
aged 50 years. The body will arrive this (Saturday) morning at 11 o’clock and 
will be taken to the Sykes Funeral Home, 124 East Berkley Avenue, pending 
funeral arrangements.
