Norfolk Virginian August 8, 1880

BRUCE - On Saturday afternoon, August 7th, 1880, at 1 o'clock, of consumption, 
GEORGE A. BRUCE, aged 37 years.
Funeral will take place TODAY at 5 p.m. from his late residence, 502 Church 
Street. Friends and acquaintances invited to attend.

                       Funeral of Mr. George A. Bruce

The funeral services of this gentleman, who died on Saturday last, were 
conducted on Sunday at 5 p.m., at his late residence on Church Street. There 
were present a number of the friends and acquaintances of the deceased; also the 
order of Knights of Pythias of Charity Lodge No. 10, of which Mr. Bruce had been 
in life a consistent member. The funeral rites were those of the Protestant 
Episcopal Church and were conducted by the Rev. Henry T. Sharp, formerly of 
Norfolk but now rector of a church in Alexandria, Va. The remains were conveyed 
to Elmwood Cemetery and there the concluding services of the church and of the 
order were held. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: From Charity 
Lodge No. 10 Messrs. C.L. James, T.K. Roberts and W.R. Armstrong; from Norfolk 
Lodge No. 9, Messrs. W.A. Edwards, K.H. Old and E.M. Solomon.
