He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hilda Bell Brush. A veteran of 12 campaigns in two foreign wars, he served in eight campaigns in World War II and four in Korea. Among his decorations for his outstanding 20 years, one month and 13 days in the Army are the World War II Victory Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korea Service Medal and the Bronze Star. Upon his retirement from the service, he made his second career with Southland Corporation, from which he retired after 20 more years. He lived the remainder of his 91 years indulging his affinities for boating, fishing, family, and Arabian horses. Predeceased by parents, Anthony and Blanche Brush, and sisters, Theresa Jean Cook and Adolphine Brush Woods, he is also survived by a brother, John Anthony Brush, of Assumption, Ill.; two daughters, Carol Anne Cary, of Yorktown, and Janet Lee and Jerome Michael Gerney, of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, George Douglas Miller Cary, III, and Carol Lee Cary, of Suffolk, and Joseph Anthony Gerney, Jennifer Anne Gerney and Mary Elizabeth Gerney, of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Friends and family are invited to a visitation service from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 9, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. in Norfolk.
