Norfolk Virginian April 4, 1891 

Captain James Bryan died Thursday at 3:30 o'clock p.m., at the residence of his 
son-in-law, No. 280 East Main Street, Mr. F.M. Smith, aged 88 years. The funeral 
will take place today from that place.

The funeral of Capt. James Bryan took place at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon 
from the residence No. 280 East Main Street. The services were conducted by Rev. 
W.G. Starr, D.D., of the Cumberland Street M.E. Church, and the interment took 
place in Elmwood. The following were the pallbearers: Capt. Thomas Kevill, 
Messrs. Ethan Allen, L.W. Davis, Samuel Phillips, A.M. Bullock, Edward Church, 
W.A. Simmons and S.S. Kelley.
