Mrs. Bryant Was Noted Southside Churchwoman
Brief but impressive funeral services for one of Southside and community 
leaders, Mrs. Jyancy P. Bryant, were held at the First Baptist church, Berkley 
avenue, Sunday, Jan. 4 at 1:30 p.m. with Noel C. Taylor officiating. He was 
assisted by the pastor- emeritus, the Rev. J. C. Diamond. Mrs. Bryant, an 
outstanding member of the church, had been a member of the senior choir for 53 
years. Several years she was given an appreciation service for outstanding 
performance. Recently She organized the Pastor's Aid Society in the Church. 
Greatly loved in the community she was known for her efforts to help others, 
Even during her illness she saw to it that flowers were sent to the sick of the 
community. A Leader, She often organized groups to go out and help persons in 
emergencies. She was also known for her love of Children, have reared several 
foster daughters and a son. Among them are Mrs. Alma Spruiell of Philadelphia 
Pa.; Mrs Elaine Shaw of Cheltenhem, Ind.; and Climent Taylor, USN, who survived 
her. She is also survived by her husband Austin L. Bryant; a daughter, Mrs. 
Amelila B. Coleman; a grandaughter, LaVerne Coleman; a brother, David Sykes; a 
sister-in-law, Mrs. Effie Sykes and several nieces, among them being Mrs. Jyancy 
S. Booker, Misses Greta, Barbara and Rita Sykes. the Misses and Messrs 
Boone.Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with the Pretlow funeral home directing. 
Members of the official board of the church served as pallbearers.
