A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late James and Lillian Bryant. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jean A. Robinson and Pastor Clarice T. Smith (Thomas). He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from WPC-Naval Base. Survivors include one son, James Asa Bryant III; a grandson, Juwan Asa Bryant; a devoted companion, Unie "Pat" Watford; two aunts, Patricia A. Murphy-McPherson (Willie) and Mildred Murphy; a devoted niece, Adraine Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, the Boones and friends. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon in The Christian Temple United Church of Christ, 300 W. 33rd St., Norfolk, by the Rev. Sharon Land-Holley. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at Cottage Avenue one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. James Asa Bryant Jr. may be viewed at Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk.
