Mr. Buchanan was a native of Norfolk and the son of the late Walter S. and Mary G. Buchanan. He served in the 8th Army Air Corps during the second World War and volunteered for an extra tour and a half of duty so that no one would have to serve in his place. He was a retired postal worker in Norfolk. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Norfolk and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his nephews, Capt. Harry Walton, Dr. Scott Walton; his nieces, Sandra W. Hutchinson, Covel W. Jones, Rondie Fizer and Mary Jo Goggin; as well as several great-nieces and -nephews. Also surviving are his friends Paul and Betty Harris, with whom he has lived the last nine years. A Mass service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Father Jay Wagner. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Building Fund.
